Mar del Plata Golf Club is located opposite Playa Grande, in one of the most aristocratic neighborhoods in the city. It features two courses. The Old Course is short and wavy; it is a typical Scottish link with uneven areas, sand bases, and narrow fairways. It is one of the oldest golf courses in the American Continent and it is called La Catedral (The cathedral) because of the uneven field and the challenge it represents to golfers. In summer, the Southern Open, the most important tournament of the country, takes place in this course. Opened in 1926, the Club House is a historic building in Mar del Plata and one of the most beautiful chalets in the area. Nowadays, with its magnificent sea view all over the course, Mar del Plata Golf Club is the citys Cultural Patrimony. Only 5 kilometers from Mar del Plata Golf Club, the New Course, a park-type course built in a 50-hectare area, is located. |
